LONDON: England captain Andrew Strauss ended his 18-month wait for a Test century when he reached three figures against the West Indies on the second day of the series opener at Lord's on Friday.
When Strauss cut opposing captain Darren Sammy for his 17th four in 213 balls he'd reached his first Test century since he made 110 against Australia at Brisbane in November 2010.
It was only his second hundred at this level in 51 innings and the usually reserved Strauss celebrated by punching the air.
Strauss, a 35-year-old left-handed opening batsman, has now scored 20 centuries in 95 Tests, with five tons at Lord's -- his Middlesex home ground.
He is now just two hundreds short of the England Test record of 22 held jointly by Walter Hammond, Colin Cowdrey and Geoffrey Boycott.
