IPL Maken asks Finance ministry to probe black money charges in IPL

Maken asks Finance ministry to probe black money charges in IPLNew Delhi: Sports Ministry has written to Finance Ministry asking to probe charges of black money being used in IPL.

Sports Minister Ajay Maken was responding to BJP MP and former cricketer, Kirti Azad who made a strong pitch for a special audit by independent people into the conduct of the BCCI and other concerned sports organisations which were registered.

He stated in the parliament that the government has written to Finance Ministry to probe charges of black money being used in IPL.

“The government has acted a lot in the last few months. BCCI exemption withdrawn in 2009, that saved 365 crores as tax exemptions.” Maken said.

“19 notices to IPL and BCCI have been sent for FEMA violation to the tune of Rs 1,077 crore.” he added.

Sports Secretary has written a letter last week in this regard to the Revenue Secretary and has sought the inquiry to be conducted in an expeditious manner by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department.

Azad, who has been vocal in the matter and has been raising the issue of black money in IPL, did not appear to be satisfied by the Sports Minister's announcement as he said that until and unless a special audit is conducted, it would not yield any result.

Maken also made a strong pitch for bringing the BCCI under Right to Information, saying the Central Information Commission was hearing the issue.
