Latest
18.32: Well that was a final session few of us will bore people with stories about years from now. But good for the series that Windies didn't fold. I could say more, but Luca Vialli, probably my favourite person ever, is talking on the other channel. Hope you're day was okay and your evening better still. Tyers will here in the morning and if anyone can make Shiv bearable it's Tyers.
"I'd want Shiv on my side" mails Travis. "Down at #11 so I didn't have to watch him bat unless we were in dire straits." Like it Travis. That's the problem with Shiv - bats too high in the order!
OVER 50: WI 120/4 Samuels 26* Chanderpaul 34* WTF was that Brez? That was less chin music, more Norah Jones. Lovely floaty full toss that's steered for four through cover. Poor. Just over-compensated. Final ball's nasty into the ribs, but that's stumps. Good rally from West Indies. Shiv gets standing ovation from the members who are still a) there b) awake.
West Indies trail by 35 runs.
OVER 49: WI 116/4 Samuels 26* Chanderpaul 30* Samuels batting for stumps now. Another maiden. This will be the last over, I think, from Bresnan to Chanderpaul. Two out on the hook - Shiv's gonna get a six-ball barrage.
OVER 48: WI 116/4 Samuels 26* Chanderpaul 30* LBW review against Chanderpaul! And it's missing. England lose a review. Erasmus right again - just doing too much and missing leg stump. Looked so out in real time, but they're good, aren't they, these umps? Shiv celebrates with a glance of his hips for four - and then there's a cover drive! And a 50 partnership. Where were you when Chanderpaul scored back to back boundaries? One over left. "Hope the England lads tell him when it is close of play, he could well have dozed off out there," writes Peter Rowntree.
OVER 47: WI 108/4 Samuels 26* Chanderpaul 22* Class from Marlon. Shimmies down to Swann, and hits a lovely, crisp flowing drive through extra cover. Best shot of the session. Looking much better now against Swann. Shiv retakes his guard, bunting the bail into the ground. He doesn't play IPL, Shiv, but he undoubtedly does more than any other modern player to popularise the format. And they don't pay him a dime.
OVER 46: WI 102/4 Samuels 21* Chanderpaul 21* Hundred up for Windies, as Samuels drive Bresnan square-ish for four. Doesn't look too comfortable that shot, and he squirts his next attempted drive to gully. Then there's a tickle at a wider, shorter one that he's lucky not to nick. He was out driving in the first dig - weight back, no foot movement - a dreadful mess.
OVER 45: WI 94/4 Samuels 16* Chanderpaul 18* Marlonmaiden. "I could watch Shiv Chanderpaul bat all day," mails Dave Sharman. "If I was mentally deranged."
OVER 44: WI 94/4 Samuels 16* Chanderpaul 18* The Ayatollah has a waft at that Bresnan bouncer but it's too high for him. And Prior takes above his head, line-out style. The Lord's exodus has begun. Wetherspoon's will be heaving in a few minutes...
OVER 43: WI 91/4 Samuels 14* Chanderpaul 17* After that stag do of an over, Chanderpaul's back to business. And that business, dear boy, is blocking. The Lord of the Leave, Baron of the Block, the Knight of the Nurdle.... the Ayatollah of Maiden Overs!
Heartbreak Ridge? Anyone? No? Pffft. Your loss.
OVER 42: WI 91/4 Samuels 14* Chanderpaul 17* That's nice from Samuels, climbs onto his toes to punch Bresnan past point for four.
OVER 41: WI 87/4 Samuels 10* Chanderpaul 17* A four for Chanderpaul. That's his first boundary, after 110 minutes! Nice shot too, just a push at Anderson who strayed little wide. There's frustration on Jimmy's face, with wee a bit of shock in there too.
OVER 40: WI 82/4 Samuels 10* Chanderpaul 12* Single off the Brez over as Samuels gives chase. Actually, scratch that, it's a leg-bye. Chanderpaul's favourite childhood story? The Tortoise and The Dead Tortoise.
OVER 39: WI 82/4 Samuels 10* Chanderpaul 12*: Just a single to Shiv and romps along to only 12 off 65. Marlon thought he was catching him, but it's foot to the floor and away he goes. So long suckers! Sixteen more overs tonight, and if England aren't careful he could even be on 20 by the close. Did you read Simon Hughes on Shiv the other day? Good piece on why England won't be bothered about dismissing him
OVER 38: WI 81/4 Samuels 10* Chanderpaul 11* Bresnan back on. And that's his fifth maiden from 8 overs. Well done cricket: if this game finishes early tomorrow the crowd are all invited over to The Oval where they can get free access to Surrey vs Durham. If this match continues at this pace, we may start liveblogging Surrey v Durham.
OVER 37: WI 81/4 Samuels 10* Chanderpaul 11* Just a leg-bye off the Broad over. Faras Ghani says what we're all thinking:

OVER 36: WI 80/4 Samuels 10* Chanderpaul 11* Two more from Samuels, who is about to motor past his partner. Still feel Swann's very much in the game against the Jamaican, who is in the beneficial position of being able to drive without being hampered by the rough. West Indies trail by 75 runs.
Question: If Chanderpaul were English (or, y'know, South African) would you want him in the England team?? Email me: michael.norrish@telegraph.co.uk with your yays and nays.
OVER 35: WI 69/4 Samuels 4* Chanderpaul 11* Shiv pulls Broad for two - miscue of the foot of the bat. And then there's three more with a drive! Optimistic thought: Shiv's coming out of his shell. Pessimistic thought: Two shots in one over means he's done for the next hour.
OVER 34: WI 69/4 Samuels 4* Chanderpaul 6* Maiden from Swann - but Samuels hasn't convinced whatsoever. He's tempted to have a drive at the final ball of the over but doesn't get to the pitch, and that had mid-on interested for a sec. Pressure will get to Samuels in 4.2 more overs, by my calculations.
OVER 33: WI 69/4 Samuels 4* Chanderpaul 6* Broad's rhythm is nice, but Shiv can't be tempted. It's quite a strange thing watching him out there. There just so few out-and-out blockers these days, are there? He is shot-free tonight. I have to say, it's a fairly joyless experience. Okay, let's have a drinks break. What d'you fancy? Gatorade top?
OVER 32: WI 69/4 Samuels 4* Chanderpaul 6* Oh that's garbage from GS though. Rank long-hop that lets Marlon, on 0, swats away for 4. "I have spoken to my barman chum (after being jostled by the footy crowd who are wearing enough synthetic material to create enough static to set fire to the building)" writes Josh in Dubai. "The Islamabad view is Windies all out under 150. Any takers?" I reckon your barman is a smart cookie. If Shiv goes (which if a reasonable sized 'if') England could win this before Chelsea kick-off.
WICKET! Bravo b Swann 21. Sinistrophile Swann does it again! Dreadful leave from Bravo, that's clattered into the top of off stump. Just drifted in, went on with the arm and that's the breakthrough England wanted to end this determined, if dour partnership. Little he'll enjoy remembering from his Lord's debut, Darren Bravo. Had to cover his stumps with the pad if he was intending to leave, but got his angles all wrong. Here's Marlon.
OVER 31: WI 65/3 Bravo 21* Chanderpaul 6* Chance! Genuine edge from DB as Broad angles one into him from around the wicket, but it's in the gap - no third slip. It's four for Bravo, and there's three more from a much more controlled on drive, which he punched nicely down the ground. Trotty does well with the diving stop thing. And there's TWO FOR CHANDERPAUL WITH A DRIVE! HE'S THE NEW AFRIDI!!
OVER 30: WI 56/3 Bravo 14* Chanderpaul 3* Swann to Chanderpzzzzzzzzzz. Maiden
OVER 29: WI 56/3 Bravo 14* Chanderpaul 3* Finally, the sun shines on this English summer. Or perhaps they've changed the bulbd in the floodlights. Change of bat for Chanderpaul - God only knows why, considering the amount of shot he hasn't played with the other one. Broad is back on for Bresnan and he's very wide of the crease from around the wicket to this LH pair. Chanderpaul 4* off 37.

OVER 28: WI 53/3 Bravo 12* Chanderpaul 3* Bravo likes the look of Swann and is willing to have a drive despite the rough. In truth, there's not much spin for Swann. Certainly no uneven bounce. I'm not entirely sure he's on a the right end, actually, as he's trying to turn it up the slope. What do I know.
OVER 27: WI 51/3 Bravo 10* Chanderpaul 3* Another maiden from Bresnan to Chanderpaul.
OVER 26: WI 51/3 Bravo 10* Chanderpaul 3* Bravo's done in the flight there but escapes and picks up four. Has a real swipe outside off stump but it turns from outside the rough. Swann will fancy this with a bit of rough - unusually for Lord's - and two left-handers on strike. A sinistrophile is Swann, my made up word up the day.
OVER 25: WI 46/3 Bravo 5* Chanderpaul 2* Ooooh, Shiv gets lucky there. Short outside off and he tried to uppercut over the slips, uncharacteristically, and it was almost a catch to third slip. Okay, time for Swanny. That's ten maidens already for England in their 25 overs - amazing. West Indies bowled more no balls than maidens in England's innings.
OVER 24: WI 44/3 Bravo 5* Chanderpaul 2* All the slips go up and Jimmy hits Shiv but that's a lousy shout - pitched outside, going down, and too high. Apart from that, etc. Plays and misses at another away swinger from Anderson - or rather, sticks his bat between his pad and lets the ball pass the edge while giving the impression of playing at it. Still head on hands for the bowler, but he hasn't committed to that. It's a tactic, not a mistake. Keeps the strike with a squirt down to third man.
OVER 22: WI 44/3 Bravo 5* Chanderpaul 2* Essex Man Goochy has got the headphones on listening to the football from Wembley - it's 1-1 at the moment between his team West Ham and Blackp... oh sorry, Josh, you're trying to get away from the football aren't you. Sorry. So on Bairstow, well, I like him. He was bloody unlucky earlier because I'm convinced it's the broken bat which did for him. He loved that bat and was crestfallen when it twanged. Got the 12th man to tape it for him but was lbw before the repair work was done. Slow going at the moment - England's Lanky and Yorkie both bowling really well. Another maiden.
OVER 21: WI 44/3 Bravo 5* Chanderpaul 2* Wouldn't think it'll too long before we see Mr Swanny, as Mushy calls him. Or Mr Mushy, as Swanny calls him. Cute. But yeah, probably time for a twirl as it's been tight without being alarming since tea. "Following your excellent feed from hot and humid Dubai" writes the excellently-named Joshua Judd. "Have come outside to smoke a cigar and avoid the rabble inside watching the footy. Is Bairstow Freddie F mark 2?"
OVER 20: WI 42/3 Bravo 5* Chanderpaul 1* Ahh, that's a gem of a cover drive from Bravo. It was a bit of a set-up from Jimmy - push him back with the short one and then give him a fuller one to drive at, but DB was upto it - leant in, weight forward, and it's up the hill and over the rope. Takes a single to keep the strike.
OVER 19: WI 37/3 Bravo 0* Chanderpaul 1* Another maiden. Pressure has been excellent from England since tea - just one run. Shiv's beaten by Bresnan from the last ball of the over, but the edge drops short of slip.
OVER 18: WI 37/3 Bravo 0* Chanderpaul 1* Well bowled Anderson, very tidy maiden to Daz Bravo, who's been very watchful in this nascent knock. And who won't be taking a single anytime soon.
OVER 17: WI 37/3 Bravo 0* Chanderpaul 1* I don't know what his kill-rate is, but obviously Inzy, in my lifetime, takes the all-comers title in the run-out liability stakes. Mohammad Yousuf was fairly dire as well, but seemed worse when he was Yousuf Youhana, for some reason. Maiden from Brez. Sun's out now. Interesting to see how England go about attacking Chanderpaul. As it's still moving in the air, Jimmy's inswinger across him could be the ticket. His record though will tell you that lbw is the most likely dismissal for Shiv.
OVER 16: WI 37/3 Bravo 0* Chanderpaul 1* Nice stats from Sky on run-outs. Nasser's kill rate is impressive - 7 from 8, including Strauss on debut, of course, when he was about 15 runs away from hundreds in both innings at Lord's. I want to know more about 'Nasty' Norm O'Neill - anyone got any ideas? He sounds like real scumbag. Chanderpaul's off the mark.
OVER 15: WI 36/3 Bravo 0* Chanderpaul 0* Swing from Brez, back into Bravo, who has now been involved in two run-outs so far this match. Out once, himself, ran out by the bloke he's now batting with - Shiva, the Hindu God of Nurdling.
