Paoli: People recognise me because of 'Hate Story'

The " Hate Story" posters have to be toned down in Bengal. Are you aware that such a poster censorship law is prevalent only in this state?

I've nothing to say against the law. Censorship is a call that my director and producers will take. I have done my job as an actor. I feel the content of a film determines the poster design. One can't make posters that cheat the audience.

A similar controversy had been created with the posters of "Murder 2" whenJacqueline Fernandez had to be covered up. Doesn't any publicity translate into good publicity before a movie's release?

I don't see things this way. Publicity should be on the right note. My film is neither for kids nor for adults who think like kids. So, posters have to be designed keeping the content in mind. My film is unique. The content was difficult and I gave my best.

You are being promoted in a big way in Bollywood now while few know that the movie also has another Bengali actor - Joy Sengupta...

I speak about everything and everyone related to my movie. It's for the media to write that. A film is about teamwork and everyone's work is important. Since this is a woman-oriented film, the publicity is centred around me. I'm sure people are mature enough to understand that every film will have to be pitched in its own way. I personally promote all my films, including my Bengali releases. Even when I had a small role in "Shob Choritro Kalponik", I was available for promotions. But I do understand that sometimes, some actors are not that visible in promotions because they might have date problems.

You are the only Tollywood actor to make it to the most-written-about-stars category in the entertainment industry. How is Tollywood reacting to this hype?

I've got messages from Bumbada, Abir and Parambrata. People from outside the industry have also flooded me with messages.

How do you interpret your colleagues' silence?

Everyone loves appreciation and I am no different. I guess, silence should also be taken as a compliment. For me, growth is important and the assurance in me that I am doing quality work.

Do you ever get tired of being labelled as 'bold'?

How can I get tired so fast? I have a long way to go.

Of late, a lot of Tollywood actors are making their presence felt in Bollywood. Is it just the reach of Hindi cinema that's creating the difference? Is the functioning style of Bollywood any different from Kolkata?

In comparison to regional movies, Hindi films have a much bigger market. I've done very difficult roles in Bengal, but today, people are recognizing me wherever I am travelling across the country because of "HS". Good work in a Bengali movie can get you noticed. That's howVikram Bhatt came to know about me. But the regional market is still very small. Workwise and in terms of professionalism, both industry function almost similarly.

You have always admitted to being inhibition-free. Can you suggest one thing that you will never ever do for the sake of movies?

I don't believe in racial discrimination. I can't do a character which supports it.

You look reed thin now. Do you think Tollywood, which loves its voluptuous women, is ready to accept you that way?

I had to achieve that look for "HS". I have put on weight again. My look depends on the requirement of the character I am playing and I always give my best.

How does your relationship status read now - it's complicated or single and ready to mingle?

It's single and happily so.
