Delhi Daredevils may be placed second on the IPL points table, but coach Eric Simons wants his boys to guard against complacency in their home outing at the Ferozeshah Kotla on Thursday.
Their next opponent Deccan Chargers haven’t opened their account and are still hurting from two close losses. “Deccan Chargers could be dangerous as they are desperately seeking a win,” Simmons said. “They have match winners and you can see by watching recent games how one player can make a huge difference.”
Simmns singled out left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem for special praise. “We always knew that he has got ability to turn the ball and has good control over his length. It was only a matter of putting the training into practice. And the way he has handled the pressure, he should go from strength to strength,” said Simmons.
He has admitted that Delhi’s batting now looks a class apart, with the three foreign recruits: Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardene and Ross Taylor.
Chargers coach Darren Lehmann believes his bowlers and fielders have been a letdown. “We failed to defend even 196 against Rajasthan Royals and that shows that we need to work hard from now on,” said Lehmann. “We should have taken the catches and should not have allowed the ball to pass between the legs while fielding. It was like an under-14 team on the ground.”
